The House of Representatives has expressed sadness over the death of Rep. Yaya Bauchi-Tongo, who represented Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State.
In a statement by the House Spokesman, on Friday night Rep. Akintunde Rotimi, the House says he died in Abuja after a brief illness.
The Gombe State Caucus confirmed his passing, describing it as a great loss to the National Assembly and his constituency.
Rep. Tongo was a seasoned politician who served as Chairman of Funakaye Local Government Area, Special Adviser to the Gombe State Government, and Member of the Gombe State House of Assembly.
Until his death, he chaired the Nigeria–UAE Parliamentary Friendship Group in the House of Representatives.
The House described him as a committed lawmaker whose contributions to legislative work and constituency development will be remembered.
On behalf of the Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen, the leadership, and members, the House extended condolences to his family, constituents, and the Government of Gombe State.
It prayed for Allah (SWT) to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
