The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has assured residents of Ekiti State of adequate security ahead of the forthcoming governorship election, pledging professionalism and impartiality from security operatives throughout the electoral process.
Speaking on Thursday at the Election Stakeholders’ Meeting and signing of the Peace Accord in Ado-Ekiti, the police chief disclosed that the Nigeria Police Force had finalized extensive deployment plans across the state’s 16 local government areas, 154 wards, and over 2,400 polling units.
According to him, personnel and operational assets have been strategically deployed to guarantee the safety of voters, electoral officials, observers, and other participants before, during, and after the election.
The meeting drew major electoral and political stakeholders, including the Independent National Electoral Commission, the National Peace Committee led by former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, political parties, traditional rulers, civil society groups, religious leaders, security agencies, and election observers.

Disu commended INEC and the National Peace Committee for their efforts in promoting peaceful democratic participation and strengthening public confidence in the electoral process.
He also praised Abdulsalami Abubakar for his sustained commitment to peace, national unity, and democratic stability in Nigeria.
The IGP reaffirmed that the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), would remain professional, neutral, and law-abiding throughout the election period.
He urged political actors and their supporters to honour the Peace Accord and avoid actions capable of undermining the credibility of the poll.
Disu further encouraged residents of Ekiti State to come out and exercise their constitutional rights without fear, assuring them that security agencies were fully prepared to maintain law and order across the state.
The Police added that the Force remains committed to protecting democratic values and ensuring peaceful elections across the country.
