IGP Disu Orders Intensified Rescue Operations After Oriire Attack

By Oluwakemi Kindness

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered intensified rescue operations following the deadly attack and abduction incident in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Disu gave the directive during a visit to the affected communities on Saturday, where he also assured residents that security agencies were working to secure the safe return of the abducted victims and bring those responsible to justice.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, reportedly left several people dead and others kidnapped, triggering fear and tension across communities in the Oriire axis.

IGP Visits Affected Communities

A statement by the Force spokesperson, Anthony Placid, says during the visit, the IGP expressed deep concern over the incident and extended condolences to families who lost loved ones in the attack.

Placid said the IGP was accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Ojo Adekimi, due to the strategic proximity of the affected area to border communities in Kwara State.

Also on the visit was the Commissioner of Police, Schools Protection Squad, Abayomi Shogunle, as authorities moved to strengthen school safety measures in the area.

Security Agencies Intensify Operations

The IGP met with the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Abimbola Olugbenga, and other security stakeholders to assess ongoing rescue efforts and security deployments.

According to the police, coordinated search-and-rescue operations, intelligence gathering, and tactical deployments have now been intensified across the affected communities and surrounding forests.

The Inspector-General also ordered the deployment of additional tactical and intelligence assets to reinforce ongoing operations.

He described the attack as “cruel and unacceptable,” insisting that no effort would be spared in restoring normalcy to the area.

Growing Security Concerns

The latest attack adds to growing concerns over insecurity and abductions in parts of the country, particularly in rural and border communities where armed groups often exploit difficult terrain and forest routes.

But the Nigeria Police Force said it remains committed to protecting schools, communities, and citizens nationwide as efforts continue to rescue the abducted victims.
