Katsina plans mass Wedding for 1,000 Couples, Makes Counselling Mandatory

Katsina State Government has commenced arrangements for a large-scale mass wedding programme, “Auren Gaya,” targeting 1,000 couples.

The initiative aims to promote family stability and support low-income families, with 2,000 individuals set to benefit.

Screening and training of participants are already underway across local government areas.

All intending couples must undergo compulsory premarital counselling organised by the Al-Usra Marital Support Foundation.

Chairperson, Murjanatu Ibrahim, said the sessions focus on marital responsibilities, mutual understanding, and Islamic teachings.

Training has been divided into three centres — Katsina, Daura, and Funtua.

Participants must obtain a certificate after the training to qualify.

“Without the certificate, they will not be part of the programme,” she said.

Commander-General of the Katsina State Hisbah Board, Aminu Usman, said the initiative will strengthen families and promote peaceful coexistence.

He noted that many families struggle with marriage costs, adding that the government will provide dowries and other support.

He also said the Hisbah Board will monitor the marriages to ensure compliance and sincerity.
