The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has been urged to take decisive action against the growing menace of land racketeering in Abuja.
The call on Monday follows allegations that some officials of the FCTA Land Department are colluding with land grabbers to disposse legitimate landowners and frustrate lawful land allocations.
Speaking wirh journalists in Abuja on Monday, legal practitioner, Nnamdi Ahaaiwe, warned that the activities of land racketeers were becoming a serious threat to property owners in the nation’s capital.
“Land racketeers are becoming a threat to landowners in the FCT. Many people stand the risk of losing their properties if urgent action is not taken,” Ahaaiwe said.
He alleged that some officials of the FCTA Land Department connived with land grabbers to swindle his client, Nnabuike Ofodile, despite a directive issued by Wike in 2023 allocating the land to him.
Ahaaiwe also claimed that the officials had failed to comply with an existing court order on the matter.
“The minister should investigate this matter, compel the FCTA Land Department to obey his directive and the court order, and put an end to illegalities in land administration,” he said.
He urged the FCT Minister to launch a thorough investigation and hold anyone found culpable accountable, saying the integrity of land administration in the territory depends on strict compliance with the law.
