Nigeria’s top track and field athletes will converge on Lagos this weekend as the country stages its official selection trials for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
The three-day championship, scheduled for June 20 to 22 at the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) Sports Complex, will determine the athletes who will represent Team Nigeria at the Commonwealth Games later this year.
The trials are expected to feature some of the nation’s biggest athletics stars, including Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, Fakorede Adekalu, Tyler Johnson, and Ogundiran Blessing, alongside a host of emerging talents eager to secure places on the national team.
Beyond selecting athletes, the event will provide competitors with an opportunity to achieve qualifying standards and demonstrate their readiness for one of the world’s premier multi-sport competitions.
Organisers say the National Sports Commission remains committed to a transparent and merit-based selection process that rewards excellence while strengthening Nigeria’s preparations for Glasgow 2026.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, with Team Nigeria aiming to make a strong impression on the international stage.
