Nigeria Mourns DR Congo Over Deadly Ebola Outbreak

The Federal Government has extended condolences to the Government and people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo following the deadly outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease that has reportedly claimed more than 130 lives and infected over 500 persons.

In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, Nigeria expresses deep sadness over the devastating impact of the outbreak on affected families and communities across the Central African nation.

The government said Nigeria stands in solidarity with the Congolese authorities and citizens during the period of grief and public health emergency, while commending health officials, frontline medical workers, humanitarian personnel, and international partners working tirelessly to contain the spread of the disease and provide medical support to victims.

According to the statement, the recurring outbreaks of Ebola in parts of Africa underscore the urgent need for sustained investment in healthcare infrastructure, disease surveillance, medical research, and emergency preparedness systems across the continent.

Nigeria also reaffirmed its commitment to regional and international cooperation in combating infectious diseases and strengthening Africa’s public health response mechanisms.

The Federal Government further offered prayers for the peaceful repose of those who lost their lives, speedy recovery for infected patients, and strength for bereaved families affected by the outbreak.
