The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), in collaboration with the International Trade Union Confederation-Africa (ITUC-Africa) and the Solidarity Centre, is set to convene a multi-stakeholder meeting aimed at strengthening trade union action against kleptocracy and illicit financial flows in Nigeria.
The meeting, scheduled for August 12 to 15, 2026, will take place in Abuja.
According to an invitation signed by the NLC General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, the programme is designed to promote accountable governance and strengthen the capacity of trade unions and civil society organisations to tackle corruption, resource leakages and illicit financial flows.
The opening session on August 12 is expected to feature a one-day multi-stakeholder dialogue on strengthening whistleblower protection, civic space and accountability in Nigeria, organised by the Solidarity Centre.
The NLC said the initiative had become necessary amid concerns that resource leakages, corruption and ineffective governance were eroding the prosperity and welfare of Nigerians, particularly workers.
The congress said the broader engagement would seek to advocate for stronger governance systems while promoting coordinated action by organised labour and civil society against kleptocracy and illicit financial flows.
The schedule of activities will continue on August 13 with high-level advocacy visits by ITUC-Africa and the Solidarity Centre.
A National Stakeholder Campaign Meeting organised by ITUC-Africa is scheduled for August 14, while a Media Engagement and Public Communication session will be held on August 15.
The NLC urged all participants and stakeholders to actively participate in the four-day engagement as part of efforts to strengthen accountability, protect civic space and combat financial leakages in Nigeria.
