More than 2,000 widows in Abuja have received food items and cash support as part of an outreach programme targeting vulnerable households amid rising living costs.

The distribution done by Uzochukwu Akunedozi, Chief Executive Officer of Blake Resort, on April 3, 2026, provided beneficiaries with rice, tomato paste, groundnut oil, and cash assistance to help ease immediate economic pressures.

Many of the widows, drawn from different parts of the Federal Capital Territory, said the support would help meet basic household needs at a time of increasing financial strain.

The outreach according to Akunedozi, is part of an annual initiative introduced in 2023 and has expanded in scale over the years to accommodate a growing number of beneficiaries.

Speaking during the exercise, Akunedozi, explained that the intervention is focused on providing relief to widows and low-income households.

He noted that beyond food distribution, the initiative has also included educational support in previous editions, with scholarships awarded to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Beneficiaries expressed deep appreciation for the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful amid prevailing economic challenges.
