The family of Michael Oyedokun, a teacher killed during the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu and Governor Seyi Makinde to help recover his remains.
In an open letter issued on Tuesday, the family thanked the Federal Government, security agencies and the armed forces for rescuing the abducted pupils and teachers after nearly two months in captivity.
However, the family said it was still grieving because Oyedokun’s body had not been found and returned for a proper burial.
They urged the President to direct security agencies to intensify efforts to locate and recover the teacher’s remains, saying the same commitment that secured the victims’ freedom could also bring closure to his family.
The family described the recovery of Oyedokun’s body as a matter of dignity and a necessary step to allow them to perform final rites and begin the healing process.
Oyedokun was among two teachers killed by the kidnappers during the attack. The rescued school principal, Rachael Alamu, earlier disclosed that the abductors killed the teachers to pressure the government into meeting their demands.
While the remains of the other slain teacher, Esiyan Adegboye, were recovered and buried, Oyedokun’s body remains missing despite the rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers after 57 days in captivity.
