The Oyo State Government has taken delivery of two security surveillance aircraft in a major step to strengthen intelligence gathering and improve rapid response to security threats across the state.
The aircraft arrived on Tuesday at Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, where Governor Seyi Makinde was on hand to receive them.
In a statement, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, describes the arrival as a significant milestone in the state’s ongoing investment in security infrastructure.
According to him, the aircraft will enhance aerial surveillance, intelligence gathering and support coordinated security operations in Oyo State and neighbouring communities.
Oyelade recalled that Governor Makinde had announced on July 18 that the aircraft had arrived in Nigeria and were being reassembled at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos before their final deployment to Ibadan.
He notes that the government fulfilled its commitment to residents by ensuring the aircraft arrived in the state before the end of July.
The commissioner added that the surveillance aircraft will support security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps, by strengthening aerial monitoring of criminal activities, improving intelligence collection and enabling faster responses to emerging security threats.
