The Nigeria Police Force has assured residents of Osun State of a peaceful, secure and credible governorship election, saying adequate security measures have been put in place to safeguard the electoral process.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, stated this on Monday in a video broadcast.
He said the deployment of Commissioner of Police Samuel Erale-Etaifu as CP Election, Osun State, is a key part of the police election security strategy.
Iniedu said Erale-Etaifu would work closely with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to protect voters, election officials, electoral materials and other critical assets before, during and after the election.
“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to reassure the general public, political actors and all stakeholders of its commitment to ensuring a peaceful, secure and credible gubernatorial election in Osun State,” he said.
The police spokesman said personnel deployed for election duties must maintain the highest standards of discipline, professionalism and neutrality in line with the law and the code of conduct for security personnel on election duty.
He urged political parties, candidates, supporters and residents to remain peaceful, law-abiding and cooperative throughout the electoral process.
Iniedu also called on residents to shun violence and thuggery, assuring them that adequate security measures were in place to protect lives and property and ensure a peaceful electoral process.
