The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Lanre Issa-Onilu, has urged Nigerians to adopt a positive mindset and embrace responsible communication as key drivers of national development and social progress.
Speaking during a public lecture titled “Positive Mindset and Communication for Success” at the reunion of the University of Ife Muslim Graduates’ Association held at Obafemi Awolowo University, Issa-Onilu said Nigeria’s growth depends not only on government policies but also on the attitudes, conversations and actions of citizens.
The NOA Director-General warned that misinformation, divisive narratives and careless communication, particularly in the digital age, could undermine national unity and development.
According to a statement by the NOA, he said constructive engagement, resilience and solution-driven thinking are necessary to unlock the country’s human and intellectual potential.
He stressed that a positive mindset does not mean ignoring challenges, but responding with hope, discipline and innovation.
He also encouraged young Nigerians to use their voices responsibly and see themselves as active contributors to national development.
As part of the event, UNIFEMGA awarded 140 scholarships worth N14.6 million to students of Obafemi Awolowo University and disclosed that it has disbursed over N103 million to more than 1,100 students since the launch of the scheme in the 2009/2010 academic session.
The association also launched a N200 million endowment fund for widows and orphans of members, while calling for stronger collaboration between universities and the private sector to improve research, innovation, infrastructure and employment opportunities in the country.
