The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has elected Rep. Fredrick Agbedi as the new Minority Leader of the House.

The announcement was made by Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, during plenary on Thursday, following a consensus decision by minority lawmakers in the 10th National Assembly.

According to Abbas, the caucus unanimously endorsed Agbedi for the position of Minority Leader, while Rep. Mansur Soro was nominated as Minority Whip and Rep. Abdussamad Dasuki as Deputy Minority Leader.

“The minority members of the 10th Assembly have unanimously nominated the following members by consensus to fill the vacant positions of the minority in parliament,” Abbas said while reading the nominations on the floor of the House.

Congratulating the newly elected principal officers, the Speaker said their emergence completes the composition of the House leadership.

“Today, the body of principal officers is complete, and I want to seize this opportunity, on behalf of the entire House, to congratulate the three members and wish them success in their new positions,” he said.

Abbas assured the new minority leadership of the cooperation of the House leadership in advancing the legislative objectives of the 10th Assembly.

The Speaker also informed lawmakers that Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere had formally withdrawn his earlier nomination for the position of Minority Leader.
