Seven people have died and two others sustained injuries in a multiple-vehicle crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the crash, which occurred around 12:03am on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Kara, Ibafo, along the Ibafo-Lagos corridor.
The crash involved three vehicles: a white HOWO CNG/CIMC ENRIC, a white MACK trailer and a Mitsubishi Canter.
Chief Superintendent Route Commander, Afolabi Odunsin, said nine men were involved in the crash. Seven died, while two sustained injuries.
According to Odunsin, the FRSC Ibafo Outpost received the report at about 4:04am and reached the scene at 4:09am, recording a response time of about five minutes.
The FRSC classified the incident as a fatal multiple road traffic crash and identified speed violation as the probable cause, pending further investigation.
The Ogun State Ambulance Service evacuated the deceased victims, while rescuers took the injured victims to a medical facility for treatment.
Authorities later handed the crashed vehicles over to the Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police Force in Ibafo for further action.
The Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists, especially articulated-vehicle drivers, to avoid excessive speed, maintain safe following distances and stay alert while driving.
He also advised motorists to exercise greater caution at night because poor visibility and fatigue can increase the risk of crashes.
Ogunjobi commiserated with the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
