President Bola Tinubu has signed the Federal Medical Centre, Oleh Establishment Bill into law, paving the way for the first federal tertiary health institution in Delta South Senatorial District.
Sponsor of the bill, Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, described the presidential assent as a major milestone for healthcare delivery and a significant step toward improving access to quality medical services for residents of Delta South.
He said the medical centre would provide specialized healthcare to millions of people and help address the healthcare challenges faced by communities affected by decades of crude oil exploration.
Joel-Onowakpo thanked President Tinubu for signing the bill into law and commended the leadership and members of the National Assembly for supporting its passage.
He also acknowledged the support of Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, and businessman Matthew Tonlagha for their contributions to the project.
The senator said the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre marks a new chapter for Delta South and reflects the impact of sustained legislative advocacy and inclusive development.
The new law adds to Joel-Onowakpo’s legislative achievements, following the earlier establishment of the Nigeria Maritime University in Okerenkoko through a separate Act signed by President Tinubu.
