Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have rescued two kidnapped victims during a security operation in Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The operation followed credible intelligence on kidnapping activities around the Lande Jessi area.
According to the army, armed criminals invaded Tashan Musa and Barkindan Fulani villages, abducted two residents, and stole food items.
Acting on the intelligence, troops launched a targeted search-and-rescue mission across key locations. They successfully rescued Usman Mohammed and Usman Harusu, who according to reports, spent about a week in captivity.
The Brigade’s spokesperson, Lieutenant Umar Mohammed, said the operation took place in the early hours of July 26, 2026, and reflected the military’s commitment to tackling insecurity in the state.
The Commander of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, praised the troops for their swift response, professionalism, and resilience.
He said the successful rescue demonstrates the Nigerian Army’s determination to protect lives and property across Taraba State.
Akaliro added that the operation aligns with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to eliminate criminal activities and restore lasting peace nationwide.
He urged troops to sustain the momentum against criminal groups and called on residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.
The army also reassured the public of its commitment to protecting law-abiding citizens and maintaining security across the state.
