The United States Mission in Nigeria has warned Nigerian travellers against visa overstays, saying the practice could affect future applicants.
In a statement shared on its official platform on Monday, the Mission stressed the need for strict compliance with U.S. immigration rules.
It noted that overstaying visas and misuse of travel documents remain serious concerns, urging travellers to adhere to the conditions of their stay.
“Visa overstays by Nigerian travellers can affect opportunities for their fellow citizens,” the advisory stated.
The Mission added that improving compliance would help protect travel access for students, business travellers, and families who follow the rules.
Failure to comply with visa conditions could lead to stricter scrutiny and reduced opportunities for other Nigerians seeking to travel to the United States.
The advisory also called on the public to help maintain the integrity of the immigration system by following established guidelines.
The warning highlights the importance of lawful travel practices, as violations could impact bilateral travel opportunities between Nigeria and the United States.
The Mission reaffirmed its commitment to supporting safe, legal, and orderly travel for Nigerians who comply with immigration laws.
