By Oluwakemi Kindness

The Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, has called on Nigerian workers to use the Workers’ Day public holiday to reflect on how their sacrifices can contribute meaningfully to national development.

In a statement issued on Friday to mark the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration, and signed by his Media Adviser, Mohammad Abdulkadri, the NILDS DG emphasizes the critical role of labour in nation building.

He described workers as the “engine room of national development,” stressing that no nation can afford to underestimate their value, which he said is anchored on resilience, hard work, determination, selfless service, and sacrifice.

Sulaiman congratulated Nigerian workers on the occasion of International Workers’ Day, commending their contributions to the country’s socio-economic growth.

“I salute and congratulate patriotic Nigerian workers and say happy Labour Day, especially to the unsung heroes whose strength has remarkably impacted national socio-economic development,” he said.

He urged workers across sectors to remain committed to productivity and national progress, while reflecting on how their efforts can yield greater impact in building a stronger and more virile nation.
