The Kwara State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared its readiness for the 2027 general elections, insisting that no form of intimidation or adverse court ruling will prevent the party from participating in the polls.
The position was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Basambo, following a State Executive Committee meeting held at the ADC secretariat in Ilorin.
Speaking at the meeting, the State Chairman of the party, Babatunde Muhammed, expressed confidence in the ADC’s prospects ahead of the next election cycle, saying the party remains focused on securing victory at the polls.
“The 2027 election is ours to win. No amount of intimidation and no level of judicial rascality can deter the ADC from contesting and emerging victorious in flying colours,” he said.
The party’s remarks come amid ongoing legal disputes over the status of some political parties following a Federal High Court judgment ordering the deregistration of the ADC and four other political parties.
Muhammed, however, commended the Court of Appeal for its intervention, saying the decision had strengthened confidence in the democratic process.
According to him, the appellate court faulted the lower court’s ruling, questioned the conduct of the trial judge, Justice Peter Lifu, and granted a stay of execution on the deregistration order affecting the ADC and the other parties.
The Kwara ADC also called for greater unity among its members and urged supporters across the state to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Unity is the greatest need of this hour. This judgment has proven that the will of the people cannot be deregistered by any court,” the party stated.
The party further urged its candidates and supporters to begin active engagement with voters across the state.
“To all ADC candidates across Kwara, the time to work is now. There is no more time to waste. Let us take our message of rescue and rebuilding to every ward, every unit and every home,” it added.
Reaffirming its commitment to issue-based politics, credible elections and the restoration of political power to the people, the party thanked its members for their patience and resilience throughout the period of legal uncertainty.
It also assured residents of Kwara State that it is prepared to provide purposeful leadership if entrusted with the mandate in the 2027 general elections.
