The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has extended the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns by one month.
The new deadline is now April 30, 2026, instead of the statutory March 31.
Acting Executive Chairman of the FCT-IRS, Michael Ango, said the extension is to give taxpayers more time to file accurate returns.
He noted that the move is also aimed at improving compliance across the Federal Capital Territory.
Tax Filing is Civic Duty
Ango urged residents to see tax filing as a civic duty.
He stressed that timely submission of tax returns is a key contribution to national development and should be embraced voluntarily.
E-Filing Remains Mandatory
The Service reiterated that all tax returns must be filed electronically through its official portal.
According to the agency, the portal is designed to be:
* Secure
* Efficient
* Easily accessible
Accurate Details to Avoid Delays
FCT-IRS advised taxpayers to ensure their personal information is accurate when registering or filing, especially:
* National Identification Number (NIN)
* Phone numbers
* Residential address
Incorrect details, the agency warned, could lead to delays in processing.
