The House of Representatives has confirmed the death of Kano lawmaker, Danjuma Hassan, who passed away at the age of 66.
Hassan, who represented Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency, died in Abuja on Friday, April 10, 2026, after a brief illness.
A statement, by the House Spokesman Akintunde Rotimi Jr. says the late lawmaker’s passing has created a significant gap in the National Assembly, particularly in legislative drafting and judicial oversight.
According to the statement, late Hassan was elected in 2023 under the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, and served as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary.
He was also an active member of committees on Public Petitions, Aviation, Solid Minerals, Constitution Review, Treaties, Protocols and Agreements.
The House emphasised that Hassan’s death is not only political but institutional, given his decades of experience in legislative processes.
It notes that “before entering partisan politics, Hassan rose through the National Assembly bureaucracy to the rank of Permanent Secretary”.
“His expertise as a legislative counsel and legal draftsman contributed to shaping several laws and strengthening policy debates”.
The statement says he was “committed, reflective and diligent,” with a strong dedication to the rule of law as well as national development.
Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, has extended condolences to the family of the deceased, his constituents, the government and people of Kano State.
Hassan is expected to be buried on Saturday in line with Islamic rites.
