The Nigerian Correctional Service in Yobe State has declared a convicted inmate wanted after he escaped while being transported between custodial centres.
According to the command, the incident occurred on April 13 along the Potiskum–Damaturu road when a vehicle conveying inmates from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Potiskum to Damaturu was involved in a road traffic accident.
In a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Adamu, the inmate flee the scene amid rescue efforts for victims of the crash.
The escaped inmate has been identified as Dahiru Mohammed, 30, a native of Askiwari village via Tarmuwa.
He was admitted into custody on November 29, 2024, and bears prison number J/1539/24.
The Correctional Service described him as dangerous and warned members of the public against any form of contact.
Authorities have urged residents with useful information on his whereabouts to report immediately to the nearest police station or correctional facility.
The command also cautioned that harbouring a fugitive is a criminal offence, calling for public cooperation to ensure his swift return to custody.
