President Bola Tinubu has approved a series of appointments across major education agencies as part of efforts to strengthen institutions under the Federal Ministry of Education.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President announced new leadership for the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been appointed Chairman of NECO’s Governing Board, while the current Registrar, Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, will remain in office.

For NBTE, Babatunde Salako has been named Chairman. This follows the earlier reappointment of Idris Bugaje as Executive Secretary for a second and final five-year term.

In the polytechnic sector, Tinubu appointed Bongfa Binfa as Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State for a single five-year tenure. He succeeds Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended in March 2026. Prior to his appointment, Binfa served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, and previously lectured at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.

The President also renewed the tenure of Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria for a final five-year term. Anunobi, first appointed in September 2021, has overseen several reforms aimed at modernising the National Library, including the development of digital platforms such as the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library.

According to the presidency, Adelabu brings extensive experience in educational administration, having previously served as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State and Chairman of NBTE, while Salako is a former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research.

The statement added that Anunobi’s reappointment is expected to ensure continuity in ongoing reforms and support the completion of the National Library headquarters project in Abuja.
