The Kano State House of Assembly has passed the Kano State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
The legislation is aimed at strengthening the regulation and management of private and voluntary educational institutions across the state.
A key provision creates the office of an Executive Secretary to improve the administration and operations of the board.
The amended law also requires private schools and institutions to obtain approval before increasing tuition or other fees.
Lawmakers said the measure would protect parents and guardians from arbitrary fee hikes while ensuring greater regulatory oversight.
The bill was passed after the Assembly adopted the report of its Committee on Education, following public hearings and consultations with relevant stakeholders.
Speaker Ismail Falgore commended lawmakers for their contributions, describing the amendment as an important step towards improving the administration of private and voluntary schools in Kano State.
