The Federal Government has approved a ₦150 billion extension of the Bodo–Bonny Road and Bridges Project in Rivers State, signaling a major boost to Nigeria’s infrastructure development drive.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, disclosed that the project will be executed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement and will be presented to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for final ratification.
According to the Minister, in a statement by tge Director Information, Mohammed Ahmed, the road will feature modern concrete technology designed to last between 50 and 100 years, significantly reducing maintenance costs and ensuring long-term durability.
Solar Lights, CCTV to Improve Highway Safety
He said in a move to enhance security and night-time travel, the government has also approved the installation of solar-powered street lighting and Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras along major highways.
The initiative is expected to improve visibility, strengthen surveillance, and reduce emergency response time to under 10 minutes, while also boosting economic activities along road corridors.
NLNG Showcases CNG Innovation
Meanwhile, Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited presented a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) ship model to the Minister, highlighting efforts to promote cleaner energy solutions in Nigeria’s transport and maritime sectors.
The development points to growing collaboration between the government and private sector in advancing sustainable infrastructure and energy innovation.
