Pinnick Throws Weight Behind Iloenyosi’s NFF Board Ambition

By Arinzechi Chukwunonso

Former President of the Nigeria Football Federation,(NFF) Amaju Pinnick, has publicly backed the board ambition of Anambra State FA Chairman, Chikelue Iloenyosi, describing him as a “tested football mind” ahead of the federation’s forthcoming elections.

The endorsement came on Sunday, May 3, 2026, in London when Iloenyosi visited Pinnick to formally declare his intention to contest for the South East seat on the NFF Board.

Pinnick, speaking during the meeting, did not hold back in his praise for the former Super Eagles defender.

“Chikelue is not just passionate about football; he understands the system and has paid his dues. Nigerian football needs administrators who combine experience with vision, and he clearly fits that mould.”

He added:
“The South East deserves strong, credible representation. In Iloenyosi, I see someone who can speak boldly, act decisively, and deliver meaningfully for both his region and Nigerian football as a whole.”

For Iloenyosi, the visit was more than a courtesy call it was a defining moment in his quest to step onto the national stage of football administration.

“I am driven by a genuine desire to serve and to elevate football development, especially in the South East. Our region is rich in talent, and it’s time we build stronger structures to harness that potential,” he said.

The Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association also emphasized unity and progressive leadership as key pillars of his ambition.

“This is about collaboration, growth, and ensuring that Nigerian football continues to evolve in line with global standards.”

Pinnick’s endorsement is expected to significantly boost Iloenyosi’s chances, given the former NFF boss’s enduring influence within football circles.

As the NFF elections approach, alliances and endorsements such as this are already shaping the contours of what promises to be a keenly contested race for positions on the federation’s board.
