A former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing evolving political realities and the need to realign his vision for governance.
Gwarzo confirmed his exit in a letter dated May 1, 2026, addressed to the party chairman in Gwarzo Local Government Area, stating that his resignation takes immediate effect.
According to him, the decision followed extensive consultations with political associates, supporters, and stakeholders across Kano State.
“The decision follows careful thought and consultations with my associates, supporters, and well-wishers across the state,” he said.
The former deputy governor pointed to recent developments in the political landscape as a major factor influencing his move, noting that the changing climate necessitated a reassessment of his political alignment.
“The changing political climate has made it necessary for me to reassess my membership in the interest of the people and the future of our state and country,” Gwarzo stated.
He emphasized that his resignation was driven by a commitment to public service, democratic values, and sustainable development, adding that his next political move would reflect these priorities.
“My decision is based on patriotic reasons and the need to follow a political direction that reflects my vision for good governance, democratic principles, and sustainable development,” he added.
Gwarzo also expressed gratitude to the party leadership and members for their support during his time in the ADC.
While he did not disclose his next political destination, political observers believe the move may be linked to ongoing realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
