Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC aspirants on Thursday, called for urgent political reforms and credible leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The aspirants, under the NDC Aspirants Forum, held a national news conference in collaboration with the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy at the NUJ Building in Abuja, to present a collective rescue agenda for Nigeria amid growing concerns over economic hardship, insecurity, corruption, and governance challenges.
Aspirants Raise Concerns Over Governance Challenges
The Forum with the theme, “Rescue Nigeria: Consolidating Hope, Building a New Beginning.” believed Nigeria has reached a critical stage that requires urgent leadership reforms and accountable governance.
Duriing the briefing, members of the group pledged to promote competence, justice, equity, transparency, and shared prosperity if elected into office. They also promised to champion issue-based politics and move away from divisive political campaigns.
According to the aspirants, Nigerians now demand leaders who can address insecurity, economic decline, unemployment, and rising public frustration.
Forum Praises Seriake Dickson’s Leadership Vision
The Forum paid tribute to Henry Seriake Dickson, founder and National Leader of the NDC, commending his role in establishing the party and described the NDC as a platform for national renewal as well as democratic reforms.
NDC Aspirants Promote Youth and Women Inclusion
While reaffirming support for youth and women participation in politics, the aspirants said Nigeria needs inclusive governance that gives young people and women greater opportunities in leadership as well as decision-making.
The Forum leadership includes Onwuchekwa Oyibe, Felix Ukpabi, Wilson Thomas, Patrick Agube, Nnamdi Iroegbu, John Nwonu, and Kingsley Ndibe.
Others are Ladi Akun, Ibe Ekwerike, Obunike Ohaegbu, Augustina Avwenayeri, and Martin Apugo.
A total of 37 aspirants participated in the conference, including 26 House of Representatives aspirants, four senatorial aspirants, seven State House of Assembly aspirants from different parts of the country.
