The All Progressives Congress APC has declared Kingsley Chinda as its governorship candidate for Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections following the conclusion of the party’s primary election in the state.

Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer, Bitrus Kwamoti, announced the result on Thursday at the party’s secretariat in Port Harcourt after receiving collated results from the 23 local government areas of the state.

Kwamoti said Chinda, who emerged as the sole aspirant in the primary, secured a total of 268,497 votes to clinch the party’s ticket.

“I, Kwamoti Bitrus, Chairman of the Governorship Primary Election Committee, having been certified as the Returning Officer for the Rivers State Governorship Primary Election held on this 21st day of May, 2026, hereby declare Chinda Kingsley winner of the primary election,” he stated.

He added that Chinda satisfied all requirements of the APC constitution and electoral guidelines, thereby emerging as the duly elected governorship candidate of the party for the 2027 election.

The APC primary attracted significant political attention amid the lingering crisis in Rivers State and the growing influence of allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, within the party structure.

The development also follows speculations surrounding the political future of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, after reports suggested that he withdrew from the APC governorship primary race.
