Nigeria Can Overcome Insurgency – Akpabio

By Anayo Akwitti

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has urged Nigerians to remain hopeful, saying the country will overcome its current security challenges just as it survived past political upheavals, economic difficulties and pandemics.

Akpabio spoke on Sunday at an Inter-Denominational Church Service at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, held as part of activities marking this year’s Democracy Day celebration.

According to him, Nigeria’s 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance demonstrate the nation’s resilience despite numerous challenges.

“We have survived political upheavals, economic turbulence and pandemics like Ebola and COVID-19. We will survive insurgencies,” he said.

The Senate President, however, acknowledged the pain caused by insecurity, noting that attacks on communities, kidnappings and other criminal activities continue to affect many Nigerians.

Describing the abduction of innocent citizens, particularly children, as a national tragedy, Akpabio expressed sympathy for affected families and assured them of a brighter future.

He also called on Nigerians to continue praying for the exposure of those sponsoring insecurity and criminality across the country.

Akpabio reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to defeating terrorism, securing the release of persons in captivity and restoring peace nationwide.

Also speaking at the service, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, said the Federal Government would intensify efforts to address economic hardship and improve security across the country.
