FCT Projects Ready for Commissioning as Tinubu Begins Inauguration Exercise – Wike

By Sofiat Adenekan-Abdul

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) says several key infrastructure projects across Abuja have been completed and are ready for commissioning as part of activities marking President Bola Tinubu’s third year in office.

FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, disclosed this after inspecting ongoing and completed projects across the territory, expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work delivered by contractors.

According to the minister, the projects scheduled for commissioning include the OSEX Road, the N5 Road in Lifecamp, and the Airport-Kuje Road. He said all three projects have been completed and are ready for inauguration.

Wike commended the contractors handling the projects, including CGC, Arab Contractors and Julius Berger, for delivering the projects within the agreed timelines.

He also disclosed that the newly completed Court of Appeal Justices’ Residence is scheduled for commissioning on June 12, describing the quality of work executed by the local contractor as satisfactory.

Addressing concerns over the continued closure of some government-built bus terminals commissioned months ago, Wike attributed the delay to administrative and procurement procedures required before handing the facilities to private operators.

According to him, the Federal Executive Council has already approved the procurement process for the management of the terminals, while the selected operator is making arrangements to deploy buses and taxis needed for full operations.

The minister said the government deliberately opted for private sector management of the facilities rather than direct government operation, arguing that such an approach would ensure efficiency and sustainability.

He urged residents to exercise patience, assuring them that the terminals would become operational once all contractual and logistical arrangements are concluded.

However, President Tinubu would visit any Area Council during the commissioning exercise, Wike confirmed that the President would participate in activities beyond the city centre but declined to provide specific details, citing security considerations.

The minister also said the commissioning programme would involve other senior government officials, describing the infrastructure projects as evidence of the administration’s commitment to completing ongoing projects and improving public services.

Wike credited President Tinubu for providing the policy direction and support that made the projects possible, noting that effective leadership also involves completing inherited projects that serve the public interest.

He further disclosed that traffic advisories would be issued ahead of the commissioning ceremonies to help residents plan their movements and minimise disruptions.
