The opening day of the third phase of the 2026 CGC Volleyball Premier League delivered thrilling contests in Abuja, with Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Police, and CNS Spikers among the teams making strong statements in both the men’s and women’s categories.
In the men’s division, defending contenders Nigeria Customs Service recovered from dropping the opening set to defeat NSCDC 3-1 in a pulsating encounter that ended with a dramatic 31-29 fourth-set victory. Nigeria Correctional Service also bounced back from an early setback to overcome UCEM VC 3-1.
The day’s biggest drama came in two gripping five-set matches. CNS Spikers edged Defence Spikers 3-2 after a tense deciding set, while Nigeria Police staged a remarkable comeback from two sets down to beat Life Camp VC 3-2.
Elsewhere, Offa VC defeated Ajase Ipo 3-1, while COAS Spikers produced a composed display to overcome Kano Pillars by the same margin.
In the women’s competition, Nigeria Customs Service made an emphatic start with a straight-sets victory over Benue Queens, while VIP & Partners also swept aside Kada Emeralds 3-0.
CNS Spikers were equally dominant, brushing past Excelsior in three convincing sets, but Fire Service had to dig deep to overcome Olalomi Royal Angels 3-1 after losing the opening set.
Another thrilling comeback unfolded as Life Camp rallied to beat NAF Rockets 3-2, recovering after dropping the third and fourth sets before sealing victory in the decider.
