The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has issued the mandatory 60-day notice for the conduct of local government elections, confirming that the polls will take place on August 17, 2026.
In a statement released on Friday, BASIEC Secretary, Nuru Abdulhamid, said the notice was issued in line with the provisions of the Bauchi State Electoral Law, which requires the commission to formally notify political parties, stakeholders, and the public ahead of council elections.
The commission noted that it had earlier released a 360-day notice in August 2025 to give political parties and other stakeholders sufficient time to prepare for the exercise.
Abdulhamid urged all participating political parties to conclude their internal nomination processes and comply fully with the state’s electoral laws and BASIEC guidelines.
He added that a detailed timetable outlining election activities, procedures, and other key information would be unveiled in the coming weeks to guide candidates, parties, and voters.
Reaffirming the commission’s commitment to a credible electoral process, Abdulhamid assured residents that BASIEC would take all necessary steps to ensure the elections are conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and peaceful manner.
