Four newly elected senators have been sworn into the Senate following the August 20, 2026 senatorial by-elections, with the All Progressives Congress (APC)winning three of the four vacant seats and the Peoples Democratic Party retaining Rivers South-East.
The new lawmakers are Prof. Dayo Fabiyi for Ondo South, Danladi Halilu Envulu-Anza for Nasarawa North, Asogwa Ikeje Israel for Enugu North, and Olaka Nwogu for Rivers South-East.
The APC secured victories in Ondo South, Nasarawa North and Enugu North, while the PDP maintained its hold on Rivers South-East.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio congratulated both parties on their victories and welcomed the new senators to the Red Chamber.
The by-elections were conducted to fill vacancies created by the deaths of Senators Godiya Akwashiki, Okey Ezea and Barry Mpigi, as well as the exit of former Ondo South Senator Jimoh Ibrahim following his appointment as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
The latest victories further strengthen the APC’s majority in the Senate ahead of the 2027 general elections, while the PDP retains its foothold in Rivers South-East.
