The Federal Government has welcomed the suspension of the teachers’ strike in Oyo State, describing it as a major victory for dialogue and a boost for uninterrupted learning in public schools.
The resolution followed sustained engagements involving the Federal Ministry of Education, the Oyo State Government and the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) at the national, zonal and state levels, paving the way for teachers to return to classrooms.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the outcome underscores the commitment of all parties to protecting the welfare and future of schoolchildren.
“I am glad to report today that the strike has been suspended. Teachers are now returning to school. This is the result of our collaboration and coordination,” the minister said.
Alausa commended Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for resolving the dispute through dialogue and praised the NUT leadership for its constructive role in reaching an agreement.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted education, stressing that collaboration with state governments, unions and security agencies would continue to improve school safety and safeguard every child’s right to quality education under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The industrial action had disrupted academic activities in public schools across Oyo State after security concerns arising from the abduction of teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area.
