President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate construction of another road in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) after traders and residents along the Old Keffi Road appealed for improved access to their communities.
The approval was announced by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike during the inauguration of the rehabilitated 15-kilometre Old Keffi Road linking Kado Village, Life Camp and Dei-Dei Junction. Wike said the President directed the contractor, Lubrik Construction Company, to mobilise to the new project without delay after seeing residents display banners highlighting the poor condition of their road.
According to the minister, the decision reflects the administration’s commitment to responding directly to the needs of communities. He recalled that traders in the Dei-Dei axis had earlier appealed for the rehabilitation of the Old Keffi Road, promising their support if the project was completed.
Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu said the rehabilitated road is expected to reduce travel time, improve access to markets, lower transportation costs and boost economic activities across Kado, Saburi, Gwagwa, Karmo, Idu and Dei-Dei.
The President said the project demonstrates the Renewed Hope Agenda’s focus on completing infrastructure that directly impacts citizens rather than abandoning projects. He also commended Wike for extending development beyond Abuja’s city centre to districts and area councils.
Tinubu urged residents to protect the newly completed infrastructure by preventing vandalism and keeping drainage channels free of refuse, assuring that the administration would continue expanding road projects across the FCT to improve mobility, security and economic opportunities.
