As part of efforts to strengthen collaboration in advancing the station’s public service mandate, Acting General Manager of Democracy Radio 104.9FM Abuja, Benjamin Ubiri, has paid a courtesy visit to the Director of the Legislative Centre for Security Analysis (LECESA), Professor Zubairu Dagona, at the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) Headquarters in Abuja.
LECESA is a specialized centre within the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies established to provide research, policy analysis and technical support to the National Assembly on security-related issues.
The visit explored strategic partnership opportunities between Democracy Radio and LECESA in promoting informed public discourse on security, governance and legislative interventions through quality radio programming.
One of the immediate outcomes of the meeting is the launch of a new weekly programme titled “Security Briefs,” scheduled to debut on Thursday, July 16 on Democracy Radio 104.9FM by 2pm
The one-hour programme will feature security experts who will provide in-depth analysis of Nigeria’s security challenges, examine emerging threats through a security tracker, assess the impact of insecurity on women, children and vulnerable communities, profile perpetrators and the underlying causes of conflicts, and discuss policy responses and legislative initiatives aimed at addressing the nation’s security concerns.
The programme will also highlight the work of NILDS through LECESA in supporting evidence-based security policy and strengthening legislative capacity, while educating citizens on the oversight, lawmaking and representative responsibilities of the National Assembly in promoting national security.
Speaking during the visit, the Director of LECESA, Professor Zubairu Dagona, described the partnership as a welcome development and commended Democracy Radio for creating a platform that will deepen public understanding of security issues through informed dialogue.
Professor Dagona congratulated Benjamin Ubiri on his recent appointment as Acting General Manager of Democracy Radio and expressed confidence that the LECESA team would work closely with the station to ensure the success of the programme.
“This partnership is a welcome development. We are delighted to support Democracy Radio in delivering credible, research-driven security content to the public. I am confident that our team at LECESA will make meaningful contributions towards making Security Briefs a viable and impactful programme,” he said.
Responding, the Acting General Manager of Democracy Radio, Benjamin Ubiri, said the collaboration aligns with the vision of the Director-General of NILDS, Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, who established Democracy Radio to bridge the information gap between the legislature and the Nigerian people.
Ubiri noted that the partnership represents another step towards fulfilling the station’s mandate of translating legislative work into accessible and engaging content for citizens.
“Our engagement with LECESA is in line with the vision of the Director-General of NILDS, Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, whose passion for establishing Democracy Radio was to bridge the information gap between the legislature and the people. Through Security Briefs, we intend to provide citizens with factual, evidence-based analysis that explains the security challenges facing the country and the legislative efforts aimed at addressing them,” he said.
Democracy Radio 104.9FM was established by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies to serve as a public education platform that promotes legislative awareness, democratic governance and citizen engagement.
The station provides comprehensive coverage of parliamentary activities while making the work of the National Assembly more accessible and understandable to Nigerians through news, current affairs and specialised programmes.
