Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has expressed sorrow over the deadly attack on Efeyi Community in Ugboju District of Otukpo Local Government Area, which claimed several lives.
The governor also commended security operatives for their swift response, which resulted in the neutralisation of two suspected attackers during a gun battle.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia describes the assault as another tragic attack allegedly carried out by suspected armed herders in the early hours of Tuesday.
He assures residents that those responsible would be tracked down and brought to justice.
According to the statement, the Benue State Police Command immediately deployed personnel to the affected community after receiving reports of the incident.
As officers pursued the fleeing suspects, they engaged them in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
“A fire exchange occurred as the police closed in on the bandits, and two of the bandits, who were apparently positioned to provide cover for the others to escape, were neutralised,” the statement said.
Governor Alia reaffirms his administration’s commitment to strengthening security across the state, pledging continued support for security agencies in their efforts to protect lives and property.
He stress that his government would not relent in confronting criminal elements responsible for attacks on Benue communities.

The governor further declares that no external forces would be allowed to displace Benue residents from their ancestral homes, assuring citizens that his administration remains resolute in safeguarding the state’s territorial integrity and ensuring lasting peace.
