Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has described his family as his strongest source of support during public controversies, personal struggles and periods of grief.
The singer spoke during an interview with Vibe Q.
Davido said his brothers, sisters and father have always supported him when he faced difficult moments.
“My family has been the only one helping me through scandals and problems,” he said.
“My brothers, sisters and father are always the first to call me when something bad happens.”
The singer also recalled how his family supported him after the loss of his child.
He said they stayed close to him and helped him through one of the most painful periods of his life.
“When I lost my child, they stayed with me until I was fine,” Davido said.
He added that his family understands the pain he experienced and continues to check on him.
Davido said his relatives are always happy to watch him perform because they know how deeply the loss affected him.
“They are always happy seeing me perform because they know how broken I was when I lost my child,” he said.
The singer added that his family members regularly contact him, even when he does not call them.
“Even on the days I don’t call them, they always call to check on me,” he said.
“Family should not be played with.”
Davido said the support of his family has helped him remain strong throughout his music career.
Despite facing public criticism, controversies and personal challenges, he said his family has continued to stand by him.
