Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has inaugurated an eight-member Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the abduction of students and teachers in Esinele and Yawota communities of Oriire Local Government Area.
The commission will examine the circumstances surrounding the May 15, 2026 attack, identify any institutional or operational lapses that may have contributed to the incident, and recommend measures to strengthen security in schools and neighbouring communities.
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Makinde said the panel was not set up to undermine the work of security agencies but to ensure that every question surrounding the incident is addressed and that valuable lessons are drawn to prevent future occurrences.
The commission is chaired by Professor Mojeed Owoade and has been given four weeks to submit its report, with the option of seeking an extension if necessary.
Other members include Professor Jibril Ibrahim, Ayo Obẹ, retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police Ngozi Onadeko, Abimbola Orogade, retired Major-General Sanusi Muazu and Folorunsho Osunrayi, while Olamide Sandra Tella will serve as secretary.
Chairman of the commission, Professor Owoade, assured residents that the inquiry would be conducted independently and professionally, promising that its findings and recommendations would be guided by facts and the pursuit of justice.
