A 64-year-old man, Joseph Nwaeke, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Nasarawa State with 68 kilograms of cannabis and 29 grams of methamphetamine.
Nwaeke was arrested on Tuesday, July 28, at Asso Angwan Muazu in the Karu area of the state, accprding to a statement on Sunday by Femi Babafemi, NDLEA spokesperson.
The arrest formed part of a series of drug enforcement operations conducted by the agency across the country during the past week.
In Delta State, NDLEA officers recovered 331.84kg of skunk from a Toyota Sienna bus with registration number KUJ 26 DV along the Kwale-Ughelli Expressway on Sunday, July 26.
In Zamfara State, operatives on patrol along the Zaria-Gusau Highway intercepted a 27-year-old suspect, Sani Umar, on Monday, July 27.
Umar was allegedly conveying 7,400 pills of tramadol 225mg suspected to be supplies for criminal elements.
The NDLEA also continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaigns across the country, engaging students, workers, transport operators, worshippers and communities.
The agency said recent activities included sensitisation programmes at schools in Kano, Ibadan and Taraba, as well as an engagement with drivers at Challenge Bus Terminal Park in Ibadan, Oyo State.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), commended officers of the Nasarawa, Delta and Zamfara Commands for their operations.
Marwa urged personnel across the country to sustain the agency’s balanced approach to drug control, combining enforcement operations with prevention, public awareness and interdiction.
