Tension gripped Ilesa, Osun State, on Tuesday morning after suspected political thugs attacked supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), killing two people and critically injuring two others.

The attack reportedly occurred around 7:30am at the Igbogi area of Ilesa, where APC supporters had gathered ahead of the party’s final rally scheduled for 8am.

According to sources, the attackers, who were armed with pump-action rifles, stormed the area and opened fire on the supporters.

A source identified as Sola said the victims were preparing for the rally when the attackers arrived.

“We were preparing for our final rally today and our leaders said we should converge at Igbogi for take-off, which is scheduled for 8am,” the source said.

The source alleged that the attackers opened fire indiscriminately, hitting four people.

However, Media Head of the APC Campaign Council, Oluremi Omowaiye, confirmed that four supporters were shot but said two died while two others sustained critical injuries.

“Four of our supporters were shot, two of them are dead while two others are in critical condition,” Omowaiye said.

He added that the APC woman leader in Ilesa was among those injured and was receiving treatment at Wesley Guild Hospital.

The incident comes amid heightened political tension in the state ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said he would make findings and provide further details on the incident.
