An 18-year-old man, Abdullahi Aminu, has drowned after falling into a pond in Kofar Gabas, Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incident on Wednesday.
The service’s Director, Sani Anas, disclosed this in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon.
The fire service said it received a distress call at about 3:28 p.m. from the victim’s father, Aminu Lawan.
A rescue team was immediately deployed to the scene.
The team recovered Aminu from the pond, but he was found dead.
The fire service said the circumstances surrounding the drowning remain under investigation.
The victim’s body was later handed over to the Secretary to the District Head of Danbatta, Baba Ado Sarkin Bai.
The fire service sympathised with the family and urged residents to exercise caution around ponds and waterways, particularly during the rainy season.
