Nigeria is set to host the 9th Lagos International Badminton Classics, with 166 players from 27 countries expected to compete in the four-day tournament.
President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Francis Orbih, said the country is fully prepared for the championship, scheduled for August 26 2026, at the National stadium Lagos
Orbih described the international response as encouraging, noting that the tournament’s US$20,000 prize purse reflects its growing status on the international badminton calendar.
He said the financial reward would provide additional motivation for players to deliver their best performances throughout the competition.
The BFN President also commended the Director General of the National Institute for Sports, Rt. Hon. Phillip Shuaibu, and the institute’s management for providing the venue and supporting preparations for the championship.
Orbih said the federation is committed to delivering a well-organised tournament that will further strengthen Nigeria’s reputation as a host of major international badminton events.
