The Independent National Electoral Commission has distributed sensitive electoral materials to the three local government areas ahead of Saturday’s by-election for the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency.

INEC distributed the materials on Friday at the Central Bank of Nigeria premises in Gombe.

Political party agents, security personnel, members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, CBN officials and journalists witnessed the exercise.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Gombe State, Umar Muktar Gajiram, said the materials would be deployed to polling units across the constituency.

He said INEC carried out the exercise openly to promote transparency and build confidence in the electoral process.

“The sensitive materials have been distributed to the respective local government areas. From there, they will be deployed to the various polling units ahead of tomorrow’s election,” Gajiram said.

The REC said INEC officials endorsed and signed the materials to authenticate them and ensure that only approved materials reach the polling units.

He also urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to respect the Peace Accord signed ahead of the election.

Gajiram called on all stakeholders to maintain peace and ensure an orderly and credible election.

The by-election, scheduled for Saturday, September 19, has 495,851 registered voters across the constituency.
