The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination, recording a sharp decline in examination malpractice.
NECO Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, announced the results on Thursday during a news briefing.
Wushishi said 1,378,048 candidates registered for the examination, while 1,371,992 candidates eventually sat for it.
According to the registrar, 804,948 candidates, representing 58.67 per cent, obtained at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
He added that 1,126,118 candidates, or 84.70 per cent, secured five credits and above when English Language and Mathematics were not included.
On examination malpractice, Wushishi said 1,496 candidates were recorded for various offences, compared with 3,878 candidates in 2025.
He said the figure represents a 64.74 per cent decline in reported cases of examination malpractice.
The NECO registrar attributed the reduction partly to the council’s adoption of computer-based examinations, which he said had helped to limit malpractice.
Wushishi also clarified that NECO does not operate or recognise so-called “miracle centres.”
He said the council only registers examination centres that meet its stipulated requirements, adding that centres described as miracle centres may be operated by state governments or private individuals.
The registrar stressed that NECO has no involvement in the operation of such centres.
