NPF Pensions Limited says it has started processing gratuity payments for police officers who retired from 2026.
Its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Muhammad Dutse, disclosed this in Abuja on Monday during activities marking the 2026 Customer Service Week.
He also said the Federal Government is working on measures to improve the take-home pay of police retirees.
According to Dutse, a presidential committee is handling the arrangement, but he declined to disclose details of the proposal.
He appealed to police retirees to remain patient, saying government has taken steps to address outstanding pension concerns.
Dutse said the government has cleared a backlog of accrued rights and implemented consequential pension adjustments, including increases in benefits that accrued from 2007.
He said NPF Pensions is also exploring ways to improve services to police personnel, including digital platforms that allow contributors to access pension services without visiting its offices.

Dutse said almost 100,000 police officers have joined the company’s WhatsApp for Business platform, with more personnel being onboarded.
He added that NPF Pensions recorded average annual investment returns of about 23 to 24 per cent over the past five years, with returns reaching almost 37 per cent in one year.
Dutse said the company is diversifying its investments into infrastructure, private equity, equities and energy to sustain returns amid changing interest rates.
He also said eligible serving police officers could access up to 25 per cent of their Retirement Savings Account balance as equity contribution towards a mortgage.
On the state of the pension scheme, Dutse acknowledged that many police customers are dissatisfied with their retirement benefits.
He said ongoing government efforts are aimed at addressing those concerns and improving the welfare of police personnel after retirement.
Earlier, the Executive Director, Corporate Services, Priscilla Egede-Njowusi, in her welcome remarks said the week would feature activities focused on customer appreciation, sensitisation and enlightenment on developments under the Contributory Pension Scheme.
Egede-Njowusi said the initiative would also provide an opportunity for customers to learn about new guidelines and services available to them.
NPF Pensions also highlighted its Retirement Resettlement Support Programme, which it said assists police retirees while they await the release of their retirement benefits.
The company said it also uses pre-retirement seminars to prepare officers for life after service, including training in skills that could provide additional income after retirement.
