The Bauchi State Government has launched a new startup law and graduated more than 100 youths trained in cybersecurity under its Cybernation programme.

The initiatives aim to promote digital innovation, create jobs and equip young people with skills to compete in the global technology industry.

Governor Bala Mohammed, represented by his deputy, Auwal Jatau, disclosed this on Tuesday during the launch of the Bauchi State Innovation and Startup Law 2026 and the graduation ceremony in Bauchi.

Mohammed said his administration was using technology to drive economic development, strengthen public institutions and expand opportunities for young people.

He announced that the government had approved zero Right of Way charges for broadband deployment across the state to encourage telecommunications companies and internet service providers to extend coverage to underserved communities.

According to the governor, the initiative will reduce barriers to internet access and give young people in rural areas better access to digital opportunities.

He also disclosed that the partnership with Protexxa had secured a commitment to place at least 80 per cent of the cybersecurity graduates in employment.

Mohammed said the new startup law would provide a framework for supporting technology-driven businesses through incentives, investment opportunities and institutional support.

He added that the law would encourage young entrepreneurs to turn innovative ideas into sustainable businesses.

The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman, said the Assembly had passed the bill to establish, develop and regulate the state’s technology startup ecosystem.

He also disclosed that the legislation provides for the establishment of the Bauchi State Startup Fund.

Suleiman urged the graduates to pursue professional certifications, gain practical experience and continue developing their skills to improve their employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.

The Country Representative of Protexxa, Abi Hafsat, commended the state government for investing in youth development and said the programme demonstrated the value of partnerships between government and the private sector in preparing young people for opportunities in the technology industry.
