The Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, has officially withdrawn from the race for the All Progressives Congress governorship ticket in Kwara State ahead of the party’s primaries.
Prof. Sulaiman announced his decision in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying the move followed extensive consultations and recent political developments within the state.
According to him, his withdrawal was driven by the need to preserve unity, peace, and political stability in Kwara, stressing that leadership must always prioritise the collective interest above personal ambition.
“It was this belief in the promise and potential of our state that inspired my decision to seek the governorship of Kwara State, not out of personal ambition, but from a sincere desire to contribute to the progress, unity, and development of our state,” he stated.
The NILDS boss expressed gratitude to supporters across Kwara North, Kwara South, and Kwara Central for their encouragement and loyalty throughout his consultations and political engagements.
He maintained that responsible leadership requires wisdom, sacrifice, and commitment to the greater good, adding that his decision should not be interpreted as a loss of interest in the future of the state.
Prof. Sulaiman also reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and pledged continued support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, promising to remain active in efforts aimed at strengthening the party and promoting national development.
“As a loyal party member and stakeholder, I remain committed to the success of the APC in the upcoming elections and will continue to support efforts aimed at strengthening the party and advancing peace, unity, and progress in Kwara State and Nigeria,” he added.
The development comes as political activities intensify ahead of the next election cycle, with contenders positioning themselves for the APC governorship primaries in Kwara State.
